lUOGHI E SUPERFICI
Questa serie di fotografie che scorre davanti ai nostri occhi è nell’intenzione di Gaetano Paraggio un documento significativo sul concetto di esplorazione dei luoghi. Dettato da una motivazione introspettiva sulla ricerca dei componenti elementari del paesaggio, emerge dalle immagini proposte, che l’autore è forte di una curiosità innata, soprattutto da ciò che comunemente si considera privo di un significato definito.
Come sintesi dell’avvicinamento alle intenzioni del fotografo, si percepisce che il lavoro di Paraggio è una forma di approfondimento del luogo inteso come un microcosmo a se stante. Essere presente in uno spazio, avendo possesso e pratica di una procedura per l’osservazione, dove l’estrema attenzione e calma rappresentano gli strumenti per la messa in atto della fotografia. Il rilievo e la definizione degli elementi circostanti sembrano essere il suo leitmotiv.
Le sue fotografie dimostrano un apparente assenza di scopi, ma in realtà sono l’evidenza di una fortissima necessità di relazione con il luogo. Un’atteggiamento meticoloso e rigoroso, quasi di metodologia becheriana, emerge dalla visione di queste 27 immagini che vogliono riportarci spiritualmente nei posti rappresentati, ma che in realtà ci consentono soprattutto di conoscere oltre il visibile apparente e ci invitano ad un intimo matrimonio con gli elementi descrittivi del paesaggio. L’architettura, il fascino storico dell’edificato, la manipolazione umana delle materie prime, l’integrazione e il rapporto con la forza della natura, sono il veicolo interpretativo per la lettura e la visione di questo libro di fotografie che dimostrano la profonda sensibilità dell’autore.
Per questi motivi, ho accettato con entusiasmo la proposta dell’amico Gaetano, felice di avere collaborato alla creazione di questa sua serie, inventandomi un ruolo per me nuovo ed insolito, ma che spero possa risultare utile per una visione più intima e ravvicinata della fotografia di Luoghi e Superfici.

PLACES AND SURFACES
This photo series is, in the author’s intentions, a document on the exploratory concept of places.
His research on elementary components of the landscape, is dictated by introspective motivations. In the images presented, emerges an innate curiosity, from what is commonly considered without a definite meaning.
The photography of Paraggio, is perceived as a form of detailed study about places, seen as autonomous microcosm. Be present in a space, having holding and practice of procedures for observation,where the extreme attention and calm are the tools for the implementation of the photograph. The relief and the definition of the surrounding elements seem to be his leitmotif.
His photos show an apparent absence of purposes, but they are the proof of a strong need to related with the place.
An attitude meticulous and rigorous, almost inspired by the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher, emerges in the vision of these 27 images. It almost seems that we want to bring in the places represented, but that really allow us especially to know beyond the visible and apparent invite us to an intimate wedding with the descriptive elements of the landscape. The architecture, the historic charm of built, human manipulation of materials, integration and relationship with the natural root of the landscape, are all elements that allow us the vision of this book and that testify to the deep sensitivity of the author.
For this reason, I enthusiastically accepted the proposal of my friend Gaetano, honoring me to work with him, to create this photo series, inventing a role for me new and unusual, but I hope it will be useful and more intimate view of the photography of “Places and Surfaces”.
